Starting April 18th Blue Earth Light and Water is flushing hydrants, this is done twice per year. Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their water during flushing. During the flushing process, it is not uncommon for a yellow, brown or reddish tint to appear in the water. Harmless mineral deposits settle in the water mains and flushing the fire hydrants stirs the deposits sometimes causing discoloration of the water.
If you experience discolored water, run your cold water tap until it clears. During periods of discoloration, postpone washing clothes and limit your use of hot water until the cold water clears.
Flushing, although it may appear to waste water, flushing provides the BELW the means to clean and refresh the entire water distribution system and check for proper water pressure for maintaining fire protection and overall integrity of the water system.
